I didn’t set out tobecome a global communications consultant! Instead, after earnng a degree in Art History and French Literature at Barnard College in New York, I moved to Berlin to learn German and build a career working in museums. A chance encounter with journalist in an airplane changed everything. While I had been studying human behavior through the prisim of art and literature, she was recording history as it was being made. This appealed to my sense of adventure and my desire to meet people from different backgrounds. I spent the next dozen years covering political and social justice issues in Europe, Africa and the US.

I later moved into director positions at the Financial Transparency Coalition, the Open Government Partnership and the Center for Justice and Accountability and as a member of the senior leadership, in addition to communications I shared responsibility for the organization’s budgets, team building, fund raising, board liason and strategic growth.

Today, as a “global communications and advocacy consultant for mission-driven initiatives” I am able to draw on a terrific, international network of journalist contacts eager for good stories and writers, editors, web producers and campaigners who I am able to pull in on projects when necessary.

I have worked on climate mechanisms for greenpeace (forests for climate), finance for the financial transparency coalition (Economist), Open Government and transitional justice. Working in communications has allowed me to develop expertise in a variety of fields including climate change, environment, transitional justice, human rights, financial transparency, open data, civil society management, the SDG process, access to information, free speech and public health. I love that I am able to provide a holistic view when it comes to storytelling and project develoment.

Not every organization needs fulltime communictions, but every campaign can benefit from strategic comms input.
